CITY WALK SESSION 2.0 · JUNE 2021
By June 21, the lockdown had ended. But the need to process what has happened to our city, and what we want from Copenhagen moving forward— these are all things we still need to discuss.
The walk-and-talk—a phenomenon that gained traction during the lockdowns—is still a great vehicle for promoting vital conversations about our city. Remember what Kierkegaard said:
Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Everyday, I walk myself into a state of well-being, and walk away from every illness.
I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it. But by sitting still, and the more one sits still, the closer one comes to feeling ill.
Thus if one just keeps on walking, everything will be all right.
In this same spirit, a number of Copenhagen dwellers took two hours of their time to walk together through Vesterbro (in the afternoon just before Denmark took apart Russia in the EM in Parken). They (the walkers, not the football teams) started at Kødbyens Fiskebar, crossed Dybbelsbro, snaked through Banegaarden, and found their way up to Enghave Plads and back again.
Along way, they shared a number of the insights and ideas that emerged from their conversations.
The short videos below (in Danish and English) provide a sampling of these insights and ideas and convey the sense of reconnection that the event generated.
The lockdowns and restrictions have mostly come to an end, but many challenges remain.
Please consider joining us for the next City Walk on August 23!
